Modification to the Prize Claim System for Instagram Winners – December 3, 2024 Follow
On December 3, 2024, we will update the Prize Claim system for Instagram winners. This change affects the Prize Claim system for the following products:
- Instagram Giveaway (among users who comment on a post)
- Multi-Network Giveaway with Instagram posts
- Instagram Stories Giveaway
Why is this change necessary?
This update is required because, starting December 4, 2024, Meta will remove the option to log in with Instagram for personal accounts, i.e., non-professional accounts such as business accounts or content creator accounts.
Until now, the prize claim system for Instagram winners required users to log in with their Instagram account to verify if they were winners and complete the form with their details to receive the prize.
To adapt to this change, we have developed an alternative system based on an Instagram Bot, which automates winner verification, data collection, and consent retrieval.
How will the new system work?
Here is how the new system will work:
-
Winner announcement:
- Once the giveaway ends, the administrator can publish a webpage with the list of winners. From this page, users will find a button that redirects them to the prize claim page.
- The administrator will also have a direct link to the prize claim page, which they can share if desired.
(Note: This step does not change from the current system).
-
Accessing the prize claim page:
- When a user accesses the page and clicks the "Claim" button, the system will display a window with instructions on how to claim their prize. (Note: This is where the change occurs, as the Instagram Login was previously used).
-
Claim instructions:
- The instructions will direct the user to send a direct message (DM) on Instagram to the giveaway organizer's account, including a unique keyword such as WIN1288722.
-
Interaction with the Instagram Bot:
- When the user sends the message, the giveaway organizer's account will automatically respond in the same conversation with one of these customizable messages:
- Valid winner: The user is congratulated and provided with a link to the claim form.
- Not a winner: The user is informed they did not win.
- Winner who already claimed: The user is notified they have already claimed their prize.
- When the user sends the message, the giveaway organizer's account will automatically respond in the same conversation with one of these customizable messages:
-
Prize claim form:
- If the user is a valid winner, they will receive a link to the claim form. This form, configured by the administrator, will remain the same as the one previously used for collecting the necessary data.
What will happen to active giveaways on December 3?
- If you have an active giveaway with the prize claim system enabled, you will need to log in to your account and activate the new system.
- To do this, you must authorize Facebook permissions that allow us to enable messaging automations for your Instagram account.
- If you do not take this action, the "Claim" button will be disabled, and users will not be able to claim their prize.
- We will send a notification email on December 3 to all customers with active giveaways using the prize claim system, including these instructions.
What Facebook permissions are required?
To automatically manage direct messages you receive on Instagram and send automated responses, you must authorize the following Facebook permissions:
- instagram_manage_messages: Allows applications to access Instagram account messages and send responses on behalf of the account.
- pages_manage_metadata: Allows real-time receipt of private messages sent to an Instagram account.
Can users claim their prizes on a different page?
Yes, when you connect your Facebook account and authorize the necessary permissions, you can select the Instagram account where users should send their direct messages.
The only condition is that the Facebook account you use to connect must be an administrator of the page linked to that Instagram account.
How long can the prize claim bot remain active?
The system will monitor direct messages for a period of 7 days from the moment you connect and enable the Prize Claim system.
- After 7 days, the system will automatically disconnect.
- If you wish to extend the period, you can reconnect the system, which will restart the monitoring for another 7 days.
What information can I request from the winners?
The prize claim form customization system remains unchanged. You can:
- Customize the form with any type of fields to collect the information you need.
- Define a privacy policy, legal notice, and consent checkbox.
- Save the configuration as a template for future giveaways.
Does this change affect prize claim systems on other platforms like X.com (Twitter) or Facebook?
No, this change only affects the Prize Claim system on Instagram.
- Winners of giveaways conducted on X.com or Facebook will continue to use the current system, which relies on each platform's native login system for user identification.
