Instagram Giveaway: Troubleshooting guide for connecting to Instagram Follow
In this article we present some of the most common issues that administrators experience when connecting their Instagram account to run a comment giveaway, as well as the troubleshooting steps they need to follow to resolve them.
Below we list the most common issues and their solutions:
“Future activity history” error when authenticating your Instagram account
“400: Session Invalid” error when connecting your Instagram account
1. How to fix the “Future activity history” error when authenticating your Instagram account
If, when connecting or reconnecting your Instagram account with Easypromos, you see the “Future activity history” error, don’t worry: this is an Instagram permission issue that can be easily fixed.
This error appears when you try to authenticate your account directly through Instagram instead of Facebook and you do not have the “Connect future activity” permission enabled. Instagram requires this option to be enabled as part of its built-in security measures.
Below are the steps to enable the “Connect future activity” option on Instagram and fix the issue:
1. Access your Instagram account from Instagram.com.
2. In the bottom-left corner, click on “More” and then click on “Settings”:
3. Within Accounts Center, click on “See more”:
4. Go to Your information and permissions > “Your activity off Meta technologies”:
5. Click on “Manage future activity”:
6. Enable the “Connect future activity” option and confirm the changes:
7. Go back to Easypromos and try reconnecting your Instagram account.
After enabling this option, the error should disappear and you will be able to continue managing your promotions without any issues.
2. How to fix the “400: Session Invalid” error when connecting your Instagram account
If, when connecting your Instagram account with Easypromos, you see the “400: Session Invalid” error, it is usually a permissions, cache, or configuration issue that can be resolved by following these steps.
Below are the steps to fix it:
2.1. Personal accounts are not supported
To run the giveaway, a business or creator account is required instead of a personal account.
How to fix it:
1. On Instagram, go to Settings > Business tools and controls and check your account type.
2. If necessary, switch to Business or Creator and reconnect.
3. Log out of your Easypromos dashboard and log back in to refresh permissions.
2.2. App permission conflict
Sometimes your Instagram account was already connected with the platform, but Easypromos cannot detect it correctly.
How to fix it:
1. Open Instagram in a browser (preferably on mobile).
2. Go to Settings > Your apps and media > App and website permissions > Apps and websites.
3. Look for the “Easypromos for Business-IG” app in the Active or Expired tabs.
4. Click on “Remove” to delete the app from Instagram permissions.
5. Go back to Easypromos and try reconnecting your account.
2.3. Browser cache or cookies
Data stored in your browser may block Instagram authentication.
How to fix it:
1. Open a private / incognito browsing window.
2. Access first your Instagram account, and enter then Easypromos.
3. Try reconnecting your account.
4. If it doesn’t work, manually clear your browser cache and cookies.
2.4. Incorrect device or network
Instagram sometimes responds differently depending on the device or connection.
How to fix it:
1. Try another device: mobile instead of desktop, or vice versa.
2. Change networks: switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or use a different Wi-Fi network.
3. Try reconnecting the account again.
2.5. Expired or invalid tokens
If Instagram access tokens expire, Easypromos cannot authenticate your account.
How to fix it:
1. Disconnect Instagram from Easypromos.
2. Reconnect your account to generate a new token.
If the error persists, remove Easypromos permissions in Instagram and reconnect (see step 1).
2.6. Temporary Instagram API issues
Sometimes the error is temporary and resolves itself.
How to fix it:
1. Wait 30–60 minutes and try connecting again.
2. If necessary, try from another browser or device.
2.7. Contact support
