2025-09-28 - Updates in the Refer a Friend application Follow
An update has been implemented that affects the "Refer a Friend" application. Until now, this application operated with the old Easypromos engine (promotions categorized as Classic). As part of the standardization process for all Easypromos applications to operate with the new engine, this application has been renewed and now works with the new internal architecture of the platform.
This update introduces a set of new features and improvements, which we detail below:

1. New "Refer and Win" page
When creating the promotion, a new section is automatically enabled: the "Refer and Win" screen. This is a private page where each participant can see:
- Their number of referrals.
- The rewards they can earn.
- Their invitation link to gain more referrals.
The page is organized into three content blocks:
- Invitation Link: The participant can view their unique invitation link, which they can share with friends to get referrals. This block can be customized with a description and an image.
- Number of Referred Users: If this option is enabled, a list is displayed showing the users referred by the participant, allowing them to see names and the number of referrals achieved.

Rewards: This block displays the prizes the user can obtain by getting referrals. It is possible to customize the message and show the user's progress toward each reward. A checked icon appears if the user has reached the objective and has been assigned the prize.
Note: Only prizes of the type "By referring users" (direct reward upon reaching N referrals) will be displayed in this screen.
2. New ways to reward users with prizes
The old "Refer a Friend" app allowed the administrator to carry out the following types of prize assignment dynamics for participants:
- Final draw where participants who have achieved a minimum number of referrals are eligible for the prize.
- Raffle among all participants, but giving more chances to win to those who have obtained referrals with additional entries.
With the update, the ways to reward users based on the number of referrals achieved are expanded, incorporating:
- New direct reward: "By referring users"
- Assignment of virtual coins upon getting referrals
2.1. New direct prize: "By referring users"
Automatically assigns a prize to the user when they reach a specific number of referrals, as defined by the administrator.
Example: The user receives a 20% discount after getting 5 referrals.
To configure this type of reward, the administrator must follow two simple steps:
1. Create a prize of the type "By referring users" in the Prize Inventory and specify the number of referrals required to qualify for the prize:
2. Create an email of the type "Upon winning a prize", to contact automatically with the winners of the prize, informing them that they have reached the necessary referrals to receive the reward and providing all the relevant information about the prize.
2.2. Virtual coin assignment for getting referrals
If the Virtual Coins system is activated, this type of reward allows users to earn virtual coins based on the number of referrals they obtain.
To grant coins based on the referrals obtained, access the Editor > Pages > Refer and Win, where you can activate the option to "Give virtual coins for each new referral" and indicate the number of coins you want to assign:
3. New email type: "Upon referring users"
A new type of email has been added, which is sent automatically when a participant gets a certain number of referrals.
By applying a sending condition based on the referral number, you can decide if the email will be sent once or several times, for instance:
- Send a unique email when the user reached 5 referrals.
- Send an email for every 5 referrals.
In addition, a new type of smart-tag has been created, {{user_referral_link}}
, which will be populated with each participant's invitation link:
This way, the administrator can use this email to inform users about their progress in the promotion and take the opportunity to remind them of their invitation link, which they can use to refer new users.
4. New design of the Share pop-up
All promotions include the "Share" module, which allows users to share the promotion on social media or share the link with their friends and contacts. In the case of the "Refer a Friend" promotion, this is a key feature, as users get a unique link which they will need to share to gain referrals and thus win a prize or reward.
With this update, the Share pop-up has been redesigned with a simplified layout that makes it easier to share the promotion on social networks, as well as to copy the link to help the promotion go viral:
5. Participant management tools
From the User Manager of the promotion, the administrator will be able to view all the information about every user who has participated in the promotion.
Specifically, from the User Manager, the administrator will be able to:
- Sort by number of "Referrals". When accessing the User Manager, the administrator will see the "Referrals" column, which can be sorted to see which user has referred the most friends.
- View detailed information about a participant’s referred users individually. Additionally, you can click on a specific participant, to view detailed information about the users referred by that participant, including their names, referral participation dates, and the option to export the information to a .CSV file.
- Filter by number of referrals. Finally, you can also use the Filter tool to quickly locate participants based on the number of referrals obtained.
