Tutorial: How to create a Drop & Win promotion Follow
Drop & Win is a luck-based game in which the participant drops a ball from the top of a board full of pegs and follows its path in real time. As the ball descends, it bounces until it ends up in one of the slots at the bottom of the board. Each slot has an associated outcome: prize or no prize.
This tutorial will guide you step by step in setting up a Drop & Win promotion, customizing the board design, defining the prizes, and adjusting the probabilities of each outcome.

1. How it works
"Drop & Win" is a luck-based game inspired by the Plinko mechanic: the participant drops a ball from the top of a board full of pegs (pins) and follows its path in real time. As the ball descends, it bounces unpredictably, creating suspense until the very last moment.
The ball ends in one of the slots at the bottom of the board. Each slot has an associated outcome: it may contain a prize or not.
Each participant has one or several attempts, depending on the promotion configuration. The result is 100% random within the established rules.
In the following video, you can see the user experience:
The "Drop & Win" application allows you to:
- Customize the board and game elements. You can configure the game design to fit your campaign. This includes setting up the board, colors, background, fonts, and images. It's also possible to adjust game elements such as the ball, pins, slots, and prize display.
- Configure and organize prizes. You can define the prizes that will be part of the game and assign them to the final slots on the board. You can work with one or multiple prizes, organize up to 6 prize groups, and also define no-prize slots.
- Prize assignment. Configure the number of available units of each prize and define how they are distributed among participants. You can assign prizes by probability or use the Instant Win option to schedule deliveries at specific times or conditions.
- Access control and number of participations. Configure how many times each user can play and the access conditions to the game. It's possible to enable access via promotional codes, purchase receipts, or loyalty point systems, depending on the campaign.
- Game experience (visual and sound effects). The ball's path includes animations and configurable sound effects that accompany user interaction. The final result is shown with visual and sound feedback, whether the user wins a prize or not.
- Optimized for mobile experience and kiosks. The application is designed for an optimal user experience on mobile phones and digital touch screens, such as tablets, kiosks, and other devices.
- Includes all the advantages Easypromos offers: configuration of user identification methods, full customization of the registration form, advanced user management and statistics, integrated email platform, and much, much more.
2. User participation flow
What will the user's participation experience be like? The promotion consists of different pages that the user will encounter when interacting with the promotion to participate, such as the welcome home page, the registration form page where the user will register with their data, the page where the user will play and find out if they have won a prize, etc. Together, these pages form the structure of the promotion and the participation flow the user will follow to complete the promotional mechanic.
Additionally, as an administrator, you can select which participation flow you want users to follow. Specifically, there are three different participation flows: the Identified Mode, where the user must identify and register before playing; the Visitor Mode, where the user first plays, then identifies and registers; and the Anonymous Mode, where the user participates without identifying or registering. The choice of one mode or another will determine how participation and user experience are in the promotion.
3. Create the promotion
Next, we explain all the steps to create your promotion.
1. Access the Easypromos Control Panel and log in with your email and password to manage and create your promotions.
2. Then, click the "Create new promotion" button to start creating your promotion.
3. The available products will be presented. Select "Drop & Win" under the "Instant prizes" section:
4. Create the prizes
The Drop & Win promotion allows you to create two different types of prizes:
- "Probability-based" prizes: These prizes are assigned based on probabilities defined by the organizer.
- "Instant Win" prizes: These are prizes assigned based on a date and time defined by the organizer.
Important Note: Instant Win prizes take priority over Probability-based prizes. This means that if there is an Instant Win prize unit available, this will always be assigned first.
4.1. Probability-based prizes
The administrator can define all the probabilities for probability-type prizes. For example, if you have 3 prizes and want to control that one of them has a higher chance of being assigned, you can define the probabilities as follows:
- Prize 1: 60%.
- Prize 2: 20%.
- Prize 3: 10%.
- No prize: 10%.
Note: The "Drop & Win" game has the particularity that there is always a "No prize" slot on the game board. This means that, from the probability manager, you can also define the probability of this slot. Please refer to section 5.1 of this tutorial for more information on how to distribute prizes across the board slots.
To do this, from the Editor > Prizes > Prize Inventory section, you can create Probability-Based prizes:
Proceed to point 4.3. of this tutorial to see all configuration options for prize properties.
4.2. Instant Win prizes
You can add prizes to the promotion that are not assigned by probability but are assigned on a specific date and time defined by the administrator.
Instant Win prizes can be combined with Probability-based prizes, and this is the recommended option when you have higher-value prizes with few units that you want to control exactly when and how often they are awarded.
The promotion manager includes a tool that allows you to define the exact date and time for each unit of the Instant Win prizes:
To create an Instant Win prize, from Editor > Prizes > Prize Inventory, click on "By Instant Win":
4.3. Configure prize properties
Once the prize is created, click the pencil to edit the prize properties:
You will find the following configuration tabs:
A. "Options" tab. Here you can configure the prize properties, such as:
- Name and image
- Description
- Number of units
- Etc.
B. "Winner Message" tab. This displays all options for customizing the design and the way the message is presented to users who win the prize.
C. "Delivery Conditions" tab. By default, the prize is assigned to all participants, depending on the probability or scheduled Instant Win. Conditions allow you to create assignment rules based on user participation criteria. For example, awarding the prize only to users who select a certain option from a dropdown list in the registration form.
See detailed configuration and customization options for prizes in this tutorial.
5. Configure the Drop & Win game
The next step is to set up all the options of the Drop & Win game. To do this, follow the steps below:
1. Access Editor > Pages > Participation, where the Drop & Win participation mechanic has been automatically created. As the first step, click the pencil icon to configure the participation properties:
Next, you will find the following configuration tabs:
A. "Options" tab: Contains the general options for this stage. From here, you can configure how many times users can participate in Drop & Win, as well as participation frequency.
You can configure the option so that the same user can only win 1 prize. By checking this option, once the user has won a prize, they will no longer be able to participate:
B. "Segments" tab (available with a White Label plan): The User Segments feature allows you to apply tags to promotion participants to segment users in groups. You can create multiple user segments to group them according to the criteria you need. This way, you can apply specific actions to the different user segments. Discover how the User Segments system works in this tutorial.
C. "Requirements" tab: Optionally, before participating in Drop & Win, the promotion can present Requirements, which are additional actions users must complete before being able to participate, such as: validating a code, uploading a purchase receipt, or watching a video. Discover all the available requirements you can apply to the promotion.
D. "Drop & Win" tab: Here you will find all options to customize the Drop & Win game. We explain the Drop & Win configuration in detail in the next point of the tutorial.
5.1. Prize distribution in slots
The game board is made up of 7 slots, one of which is always a "no prize" slot.
As an administrator, you can configure the distribution of the different prizes you have created in your prize inventory to determine which prize(s) are in each slot on the board.
To do this, the system works with the concept of "Prize groups", which allows you to create prize groups that you can link to the different slots on the board.
To start, click on the "Drop & Win" tab:
Upon entering, you will see that the system comes with a default prize group. This prize group includes all types of prizes that do not belong to any other group. Here, you can create your Prize groups to distribute the different types of prizes in your inventory.
Example:
In the promotion's prize inventory, the following types of prizes have been created:
Thus, the inventory shows three clear prize categories:
- Caps, backpacks, T-shirts, and towels.
- Tablets and smartphones.
- Discounts of 20%, 40%, and 50%.
The administrator creates three prize groups to better structure the campaign and organize the different types of rewards:
- A first group called "Merchandise," which groups all promotional materials of the campaign.
- A second group called "Gadgets," which includes higher-value tech prizes.
- A third group called "Discounts," where the three types of discount coupons are added.
This way, the campaign is organized into three clear prize categories, facilitating management and assignment within the promotion.
To start, click "Add group", and you will see the new group added at the bottom, so you can customize it:
The available group customization options are:
- Title. This is the name that identifies the group.
- Image. This is the image that identifies the group in the slot within the game board. You can upload your own image or choose one from the available preset library.
- Final message. This is the message users will see when the ball lands in this slot.
- Prize types. Here you can add the prize types you want to add to this group. Clicking "Add prize types" opens a pop-up window where you can select the prizes to include in this group.
For example, in the "Merchandise" group, you would select the four prizes in this category (caps, backpacks, T-shirts, and towels).
Next, you can create the other groups to distribute the other prize types.
Note: If you want to assign a single prize to a slot, create a prize group and include only that prize within the group. Then, customize the group's image using the prize's own image.
5.2. [Probability-based prizes] Assign probabilities to probability-based prizes
Once you have created all prize groups, the next step is to assign prize probabilities to determine the chance of winning each prize in the game.
To do this, from the same "Prizes" tab, at the bottom, you will find the "Edit prize odds" option:
Note: The probability manager calculates over 1,000 instead of 100 to allow more precise probability definitions.
5.3. [Instant Win prizes] Schedule date and time for prize assignment
If you have created prizes assigned by "Instant Win", you need to schedule the prizes. You do this in the Editor > Prizes > Instant win scheduler, where you can define the date and time when these prizes will be assigned.
First, you must enable the Instant Win tool:
Next, the Instant Win scheduler tool will open, allowing you to schedule the date and time for each Instant Win prize unit's assignment.
To start, click the "Add instant win" button, and a pop-up window will open where you can schedule the date (day and time):
You can follow this tutorial that explains in detail how to create instant wins for each prize.
5.4. Customize board design
Next, click on the "Design" tab to customize the design and style of the board where the game is presented. Here you will find the following customization options:
A. Customize colors
You can customize the color of the following elements that appear on the game board:
- Ball
- Board
- Pins
- Side walls
- Borders
B. Advanced
Here you can customize the following options:
- Show outer border.
- Button text where users must click to drop the ball.
- Board background image. A template is available for download to optimize the design of this background image.
C. Sound effect
Here you will find the "Disable sounds" option, which allows you to turn off the default sound effects in the game.
6. Customize the design and finish setup
Once you have configured the game, the next step is to complete the setup of other promotion options, such as customizing the design template with your own colors and texts, adding the legal terms, configuring viral content, etc.
Check the tutorial to finish the setup and customization of your promotion.
